Why Procrastination May Be Good for the Soul

procrastination good for the soul

Are you a procrastinator?

How many times have you found yourself dithering, delaying and avoiding the things you know that you should be doing?

One of my favorite quotes found online is – “Procrastinators Unite! Tomorrow.”

Procrastination is defined as the avoidance of doing a task that needs to be completed, but maybe there is something more to this from a spiritual perspective.

In this Universe there is a Divine timing to everything. This Divine timing can sometimes be difficult for our ego or rational selves to understand, however most of us on the spiritual path, trust that everything is unfolding in perfect timing.

Just like a flower will bloom from a seed at a specific time, we will also take actions in our own lives at specific times.

These specific times may appear to be random, but really they are all part of the great unfolding.

So, what if procrastination wasn’t just avoidance out of laziness or even fear?

What if procrastination was a deeper, spiritual sign that the task at hand and the vibrational resonance occurring within was out of alignment?

Spiritual teacher, Esther Hicks who channels the spirit, Abraham sums this up perfectly-

“Procrastination is the wisdom to not force something that you are not vibrationally ready for. If you have done the energy work you would be feeling it. Procrastination is what aligned people do when they are not in alignment. You don’t try to force it or make it happen.”

Of course, on a practical level this may not always be possible. You have a deadline for school or work and you may not be in vibrational resonance with it, however you know the consequences and this is what motivates you to get it done.

This is not really what I am talking about though. I am talking about deeper level, personal stuff. That stuff that you feel like you should do in your life in order to achieve your higher purpose, but are procrastinating about it.

For example-

I feel like I should make a decision now in order to move forward.

I feel like I should probably  get out of this relationship.

I feel like I should probably move to Japan.

I feel like I should quit my job and pursue my passions.

All of these “feeling” places that nag and nag us and that we procrastinate about achieving, are perhaps not because we are lazy or scared, but because we are not in vibrational harmony with it.

When you are in vibration with your decision, the flow and the ebb and the motivation all appears. You feel the compulsion to move forward naturally and the Universe responds in kind.

Procrastination is so much deeper than just feeling “lazy” or being afraid of making change. On a deeper level, it is that the change is not ready to occur.

Perhaps you can feel change coming, perhaps you can see it. Perhaps you are even certain that it is the direction your life will take. But when you are not ready for it, you are not ready for it. Simple.

Procrastination could also be a sign that there is more work for you to do where you currently stand.

Maybe procrastination is more about getting yourself into a place of alignment, then it is about encouraging yourself to pursue something without being fully in it.

Because when you are not fully in it, can you really be making your decision from a place of benefit?

As Esther Hicks continues-

“There is not enough action in the world to compensate for energy that is not moving.”

If you have ever tried to make a change when your energy is not in vibrational harmony with it, you will know that you get met with resistance.

Resistance after resistance will present itself when your energy is not in harmony with the changes you are trying to make.

It is like an uphill battle that you are doing in roller-skates. The minute you move forward and try to let go and be free in the energy, you simply roll right on back, only to end up exactly where you started. Bewildered. Stressed. Wondering why you can’t make the changes that you have wanted to.

So, if you find yourself in this position. If you find yourself dithering, delaying making plans, trying to get yourself motivated to do anything. Perhaps stop and ask yourself where this procrastination is really coming from.

Because chances are, is it not coming from a place of laziness or fear. Chances are, your procrastination is really because you are not in the vibrational resonance with what you are trying to do.

Can you fake getting into vibrational resonance with what you have to do?

Sure. Yes, you can.

But for the most part, and especially when it comes to making key life decisions, often you have to feel it, before you can go there.

The next time you feel procrastination coming along in your personal life, perhaps be gentle with yourself and give yourself the time you need, without judgement, to get into the right energetic space.

When you give yourself this freedom and this love, (because really to allow yourself this is so loving!), you may find that the inspiration just arises naturally and comfortably.

And isn’t that how life should be? Natural and comfortable?

Why pressure yourself to make a decision even though you don’t feel like it?

Give yourself permission to feel it. Give yourself permission to get to that place where you are so juiced up that you can’t wait to finally move forward and make your decision.

Life is better when you live it juicy and not in service to your ego mind, which will try to tell you that procrastination is bad and ineffective.

Remember, in the words of Ms. Hicks-

“Procrastination is the wisdom to not force something that you are not vibrationally ready for. “
