Journeying Through Saturn Return Part 1

saturn return

For anyone that has heard about Saturn Return, it can bring up a lot of fear and angst. Even the words themselves evoke a sense of trepidation- what is Saturn and why is it returning?!

A Saturn Return typically occurs every 28-29 years and lasts for around 2.5 years. Most people will experience two to three Saturn Returns in their lives- one at 28, 58, and 87.

Saturn is considered one of the most challenging and harsh planets in the solar system, but there is a depth to Saturn that very few people understand- even I am fully yet to understand and appreciate Saturn completely.

Saturn energy forces us to look at the hard stuff and take responsibility for it. Saturn requires us to get grounded and rooted in reality so we can own everything that we have ever done, felt or experienced.

Saturn wants us to open our mind and our hearts and stand face to face with who we truly are- the good, the bad and the ugly. That is the power of Saturn.

Where Saturn falls in your natal astrology chart also indicates where you are most likely going to experience some of your greatest opportunities for growth.

Saturn is nothing to be feared and neither is your Saturn Return. In fact, if you have been taking responsibility for your life chances are you are going to just breeze right through the process….

“Astrologically, at that age you experience a Saturn Return, it is considered an auspicious time to reboot your life. It is a chance to have a clean start and move forward into something very exciting.”- Frederick Lenz.

As I start my Saturn Return in the coming months, I am going to share with you my realisations and journey into what a Saturn Return is all about. However, because I have most likely experienced a Saturn Return or two in previous lifetimes 😉 , here is what I have come to understand about the fated astrological event-

1. Saturn Return is a Time to Decide

For the last 28 to 29 years of your life you have been plodding along doing what you are doing, but then your Saturn Return happens and Saturn starts to ask you all sorts of questions-

Why are you doing what you are doing?

Is this what you are supposed to be doing?

What do you want for your life?

What do you want for your future?

Where do you see yourself for the next 30 years?

Are you living up to your fullest potential?

These are the types of hard-hitting questions that Saturn will come around and cause you to observe during this period of your life. Usually, Saturn will also bring some pretty big decisions your way which you will have to face up to.

During a Saturn Return most people are confronted with a decision that they have to make, and most of the time, Saturn is always there to ensure that you choose wisely.

2. Saturn Return is a Time to Commit

Along with making a decision, Saturn Return is also going to ask you to commit to something. It could be to a relationship, a job, a career, a house or even just to yourself.

Saturn wants you to take responsibility for yourself and your life and to commit to both the things you have done and the things that you are going to do.

A lot of people also get married on their Saturn Return. There are some astrologers out there however, that believe you shouldn’t commit to anyone until you have had your first Saturn Return, as through the process you will discover what you really want to commit to and what commitment really means to you.

Of course, this is a blanket statement that won’t apply to everyone, but generally until your Saturn Return has come around, it may be trickier for you to understand the true nature of commitment.

3. Saturn Return Reveals What is Holding You Back

If you are being held back in your life, your Saturn Return is definitely going to expose this. Of course, this is excellent in the long run, but in the short term it can stir up a lot of anxiety and fears.

Saturn will guide you to release and let go of all the things that are holding you back and will continue to expose them to you until you take charge and do something about it.

This is one of the best parts of a Saturn Return because if you welcome in Saturn’s lessons, you will be able to clear away all of those things that are standing in your way of realising your fullest potential.

4. Saturn Return Brings Up “Father” Issues

If you have father issues or issues with the masculine, chances are they may also be a theme of your Saturn Return.

Saturn has a strong masculine energy and if there are any wounds surrounding masculine relationships in your life, they may also be highlighted at this time.

The most crucial masculine relationship that we all have is with our father, which means that father issues may present at this time as well.

Usually Saturn Return brings a lot of healing surrounding father issues and you may find that this is the perfect time to reconcile any differences.

5. Saturn Return Forces You to Get Real

If you have been coasting through life with your head in the clouds, Saturn may give you a firm tug back down to earth.

During your Saturn Return it is time to get real with yourself and the world around you. You can no longer hide in fantasies or in the world of illusion. Saturn makes you sit up and pay attention to everything that is happening around you.

Saturn forces you to get real and to operate from a practical, grounded and earthy place, which for some people can be difficult to do.

Saturn Return also exposes the truth, so secrets may be revealed or you may see someone’s true colours, including your own.

As you can see, the Saturn Return is a very interesting time and everyone is going to experience it differently.

Join me over the coming years as I go deeper into the Saturn Return from both an astrological and intuitive point of view.

Also, please feel free to share your comments about your Saturn Return experiences!

I wrote this is November 2016 well before my first Saturn Return was about to begin. Now that my Saturn Return is over, I have written Part 2. Read it here.
