The 3 of Pentacles and 3 of Swords

I have been visiting my older sister in Los Angeles this week. She is a lawyer who works in the music industry. She is smart, lovely and hilarious and moved here to pursue her dreams.

While in town I’ve been soaking up the sun, visiting art galleries, and spending lots of time in traffic. The city is such a mix of beautiful buildings, deep history, gorgeous vegetation, and devastating homelessness.

I so enjoy exploring new areas and tapping into the pulse of places I visit. But in LA I felt a sadness creeping in. It crystalized for me while driving on the freeway, looking out on the sun scorched landscape.

I asked my sister if she ever felt depressed living here. She said that she actually feels enriched by the city. It is vibrant and the people are optimistic and enthusiastic. It supports the type of work she wants to do and brings her a lot of joy.

This made me so happy to hear. I love knowing that she is nurtured and enriched here. And it also made me think if my city and my work were giving me the same feelings. These questions were going through my head as I picked the cards for the week.

The 3 of Pentacles, also called Work in some decks, is a card about putting in the time to go after what you want. It is about connecting with mentors and those who inspire you.

It is about working to stay motivated. Its about asking for the help of those you admire and respect in whatever field you are drawn to. It’s about being someone who is always listening and always teachable.

Are you open to learning in any given moment? Do you see challenges as an opportunity to grow? Do you ask for guidance from people who have gone before you?

The 3 of Pentacles wants you to ask these questions and put in the work. It is time to level up and go after what we want. Schedule a time to connect with someone who inspires you this week.

Collaboration and dedication will be your friends. It is all about collectively growing and becoming better through the support of others.

The 3 of Swords is a slightly harder pill to swallow. It is about revealing painful truths and feeling the sting of this new information.

When we uncover something about ourselves or our world that feels difficult, we often want to shy away from it. In my case, asking if I felt nourished by my city and my work, proved to be challenging.

I don’t feel that same inspiration and support as my sister feels. But I am happy to have asked these questions because they will help me to see what I need and be clearer about what I want.

When the 3 of Swords comes up we can feel some heartbreak or betrayal. But this card knows that hard truths will lead to more growth and strength.

It wants us to connect to what we already know to be true and start to trust our gut feelings. We often feel closer and more loving to ourselves after experiencing the energy of the 3 of Swords.

We can even feel relief from this type of truth as it confirms the feelings we have been holding inside. We are ready to let the truth in, we are ready to evolve.

Mantra for the week: I do not shy from difficult truths. I know honesty makes me stronger. I ask for the support of those who inspire me.
