“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-/ I took the one less traveled by,/ And that has made all the difference.” Robert Frost
It’s amazing to follow that unknown journey. To have that sense of discovery.
It could hurt to watch gifted people afraid of their own potential. You feel that energy when you’re around them, and see their discomfort for wanting more.
I come from a family that never lets a difficult situation stop them from moving forward. I also come from New York. Maybe it’s just in my genes to keep on going, and leave no time for doubt. I mean, I’m not fearless, at all. I have lots of fears and paranoias, but when it comes to something I say I want, well, I want it.
Sometimes life can be that simple, so why not try and leave it at that instead of overcomplicating the situation?
I’ll hear friends talk about how they wish they worked harder towards their goals. A lot of times, the moment they realize how much time it may take “slaving away” makes them really intimidated. Well, if you know you’ll need to fit more time, why not do it?
If you have time to go out and grab a cocktail or watch the latest episodes of your favorite programs, you have time to work on that novel or that new recipe you’re creating.
I understand perfectly well how hard it is to face your fears sometimes. How often is it that what we are most fearful of is our own failure?
We put so much pressure on ourselves to be perfect. In the end though, I have to say for me anyways, my biggest failures were my biggest successes because, not to sound too after school special on you, I learned life lessons from them.
It makes sense to sometimes need to try and take time for a breath of fresh air. If you need that break, take it. Just know a break is a break, so remember to come back from it.
Something that has always surprised me is how much I always loved walking around Times Square while living in Manhattan. People hate it there because it’s hard to move around. Maybe having worked at Rockefeller Center for a few years I became really gifted at going past the crowds, but I always got a sense of fulfillment when I was there. I felt such positive vibes.
It was being in a pool of literally hundreds of people who were there for a reason, and they were running towards it.
People are intimidated by the Big Apple, which I totally get because I grew up in upstate NY, aka the country. Having lived in that “city that never sleeps” though, there was so much inspiration in the air I was breathing. I was a full time college student, with a 20+ hour internship, and a part job on the side. Yet, to so many other people there, that was barely anything. They stay awake there because they’re moving along. They’re making their dreams come true, and they’re happy working their behinds off.
It’s beautiful!
I didn’t mean to go off on a tangent and write an ode to New York. I just want to reassure people that when you take those leaps of faith you’ll only move that much closer towards your passion. Don’t say “no” because logically everything is pointing to failure in your head. Things don’t always turn out the way you hope, but that only makes you grow in the end.
