5 of Disks, Worry, and 4 of Disks, Power
This can be a lovely time of year. We celebrate holidays, spend time with loved ones, and enjoy family traditions. It can also be a stressful time of year for all the same reasons.
Traveling, spending money, cooking large meals and being surrounded by lots people can cause us to feel anxious. We might be worried about staying grounded through all the ups and downs.
I pulled these cards right before I flew to my hometown for the holidays. I was feeling overwhelmed by all the things I needed to get together before the trip. Airports are not my favorite place, so the stress of anticipating a packed terminal did not put me at ease either.
The 5 of Disks was me in that moment, but I also know that many of us are feeling this way. Our minds worry about all that can go wrong. We think about the past and the future, projecting negativity instead of being in the moment.
The Worry card has a dark pentagram star in its center. The top of the star is pointed towards us as the reader. The significance of the direction of the star is that it shows us that we are in control of the worry we experience.
Maybe we have had stressful interactions with family in the past. Maybe we are worried about what could go wrong when attending or hosting a large gathering. But we do not need to believe every thought we have. Just because we think it does not mean it is true.
These thoughts are taking us away from the present and they are making us fearful of things that have not even happened. If we call these worries out for what they are and try to be open to the moment, we will realize that everything is okay.
We often worry and create stories about things that do not become a reality. We waste our time in this space instead of allowing something wonderful to happen. We are so worried about things going wrong that we miss out on what is going right.
It takes practices to call out these anxious thoughts. But if we notice them, we can start to break the cycle of worry. We can say to ourselves, ‘just because I had the thought, does not mean it is true.’
The 4 of Disks is the most perfect card to come along with the 5 of Disks. This Power card is all about a strong and positive foundation. It is about taking stock of what gives you strength. It is the antidote to any stressful thought.
If you hear yourself or family member question your power, you can take a moment to think of all the things that make you strong: You can think about how far you have come in the past year and all the people in your life that love and accept you. You can think of all the things you do each day that prioritize your mental health. You can think about your spiritual practices and your journey to your higher self.
No negative thought or comment can take away all the work you have put into building your foundation. It is still there and will not be knocked down by anxiety.
You are so powerful, brave and resilient. You have a base of positivity and love that you worked hard to cultivate. I know you can combat any stress and worry this season by focusing on your badass inner strength.
Mantra for the week: My worries are not predictions of the future. I let go of stress and anxiety and focus on my foundation of power and love.
