Lust and Death

Lust and Death may seem like opposite cards, but they actually work quiet well together.

Lust is about enjoying life, throwing caution to the wind, and trusting we will survive whatever choice we make. Death is about letting go to what no longer serves us and starting a new way.

When I think of the Lust card, an Anthony Bourdain quote comes to mind. Anthony said- “Your body is not a temple, it’s an amusement park. Enjoy the ride.”

This is the epitome of the Lust card. It asks us, what makes you feel good? What do you want that you always thought was irresponsible? How can you listen more to your heart and not your head?

Eat that decadent dessert, go skydiving, or take that trip to China. We only live in this body once and the Lust card says indulge!

Trust is a huge part of Lust. It wants us to let go of our fears by trusting that we can handle stepping out of our comfort zone. We are not fragile dolls and will not break from doing something we might consider unconventional.

Sometimes we are too aware of what can go wrong and it holds us back from living our lives. Lust wants us to live our lives regardless of the dangers. It wants us not to live in fear.

The figure on the card is drenched in gold, fully embracing her body as she rides a multi-headed lion. She is both in control and out of control at the same time. She is full of pleasure and power.

How can you embody this card this week? How can you indulge without fear? How can you live in the moment and go after what you heart desires?

Lust says, take at least one step towards a desire you have. Do not let fear or judgement hold you down and really enjoy your rebellious act.

With our second card this week, our first response might be fear. We are afraid to face whatever message the card is offering.

But we should not fear the Death card. It is not a card of darkness but a card of new beginnings. It is about letting go of the heavy baggage we carry that make our steps more difficult. With Death, we are shedding the past and starting with a lighter load.

Death brings a powerful transformation. This change could feel somewhat disruptive or it could feel like a breath of fresh air.

This is a perfect card for the New Moon in Gemini this week, which is all about planting seeds and removing obstacles from our progress.

If you want to plant new seeds and grow a fruitful garden, you will need to pull out the weeds and clear any rubbish that could block new growth. Death helps our new flowers grow and knows change is a natural part of life.

Maybe there is something you have been wanting to change or let go of but have not known how. With the Lust card as the partner card this week, what we might be letting go of is fear.

Spend time thinking about the routines, habits, mental loops, negative thinking patterns, relationships, or jobs we need to shed. What in our lives has turned rotten and needs to be composted? What can we let die so other parts of us may more fully live?

Do not shy away from the message of these cards. If we let them puncture our hearts we will grow more deeply in partnership with the energy of the Universe.

Mantra for the week: My lust for life makes me fearless and I enjoy the world to the fullest. I let go of baggage and welcome new growth!
