essential oil uses

Essential oils are natural oils that are distilled from a flower, plant or herb. Essential oils hold therapeutic properties and also carry an extremely high vibration.

Essential oils not only smell delicious but they can also be used for a variety of purposes and can help heal the body on a physical, emotional and spiritual level.

Unlike perfume oils, essential oils are non toxic and are much better for the environment, making them a a superior choice to artificially scented candles.

Even just by putting a few drops of essential oil with water into a diffuser can fragrance your entire home without any nasty side effects.

If you are looking to get started with essential oils, here are 5 of the top oils you need to start with and how to use them-

1.) Lavender

Lavender essential oil has so many therapeutic benefits, but what it is most famous for is helping to reduce anxiety and promote calmness. Lavender is the perfect oil to use when you want to relax and unwind for the day. It can also help you to switch off your mind before going to bed.

For the best effects, combine a few drops of lavender oil with water into a clean spray bottle. Shake and then gently spray your pillow and bedding. You can also place a few drops of lavender oil onto a small towel and place it under your pillow for peaceful sleep all through the night.

2.) Peppermint

Peppermint essential oil is extremely invigorating and can help to sharpen all of your senses. Peppermint oil is also energising, which means that it can give you a great pick-me-up at any time of day. One of the most popular uses for peppermint oil however, is helping to relieve headaches and even migraines.

Simply dip the end of a tissue with 1-2 drops of essential oil and then place the tissue in the opposite nostril of your headache. So if your headache is on the left side of your head, place the tissue in your right nostril. If the headache is in the middle, you can place a tissue in each nostril. Keep the tissue in for around 5 minutes and your headache will be gone or dramatically reduced.

3.) Tea Tree

Tea Tree essential oil is anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal making it a great oil to use around the home. Simply mix a few drops of tea tree essential oil with water and use as a great, non-toxic spray for counter tops and bathroom surfaces.

Tea Tree oil is also great for helping to relieve acne and even reduce the appearance of redness and scars. Add 1 drop of tea tree oil to coconut oil or another carrier oil and apply on your skin. If you have sensitive skin, you may want to avoid using this on your face.

4.) Sandalwood

Sandalwood is an extremely rare and expensive, so it often comes blended with other oils. Sandalwood essential oil has an extremely high vibration and is often used for spiritual healing and clearing of negative energy.

Just 1 drop of sandalwood oil on the back of the neck is said to ward off bad energies and can help to release any toxic build up in your aura. Sandalwood oil can also strengthen your aura and help to activate your third eye.

Sandalwood beads or mala beads are also great to use during meditation, however due to the rarity of the wood these can be hard to come by. If you can find any plain wooden beads, you can rub them with sandalwood essential oil for a similar effect.
