Committing to the Top of Your Life

“When you want something, all the Universe conspires in helping you to achieve it”– Paulo Coelho

It was a steep incline, I was puffing and panting but my legs felt strong. I reached a section of the hike that was overgrown with long grass and wildflowers.

I proceeded to move forward but as the grass became longer and thicker my heart began to race- I was in the middle of bear country and didn’t have a good visual on what was ahead.

I turn back to look at the view below and see the crystal blue waters of the Alaskan harbour. I am in Seward climbing up Mount Marathon, a trail that is a favorite with the locals – residents and bears included.

My fear starts to get the best of me as the forest gets thicker and deeper so I decide to start making my way back. I am done for today, I say to myself.

I start trekking downhill but suddenly I feel a calling- a calling to the top of the mountain. I stop, pondering if I should go back.

Let me just try, I say to myself.

So I turn around and start walking again through the thick grass and Alaskan wildflowers. Then suddenly I hear a rumble, I stop again, my fear creeps in, I should definitely turn back now before I come face to face with something furry.

I start making my way down yet again, but again I feel a calling to the top. My confused mind begins to race again- keep going, turn around, keep going, turn around, keep going???

Make a commitment I think to myself, commit to the top or just forget the whole thing.

I look through the thick grass and wildflowers all around me and suddenly I can feel an energy vibrating through everything around me. I feel the healing energy vibrating off every blade of grass and every wildflower.

energy off wildflowers

Do you feel the energy of the wildflowers?

I calm my mind, I take a deep breath, close my eyes and know that the minute I commit to the top, the whole Universe will also commit to me.

I start walking up the mountain again, making my way through the thick grass, knowing that with each step I am being supported. The walk becomes easy, my fear of seeing a bear is lifted and soon I am able to enjoy the beauty that is all around me.

The epiphany then hits me- making a commitment helps to release confusion and fear.

When I made the commitment to the top, I just knew and trusted that by standing by my choice I would be able to handle whatever came my way.

I reached the top of the mountain and looked down below, the view was breathtaking and there was a strong sense of calm and peace in the air. Absolutely no regrets. And no bears.

view from the top

Isn’t that stunning?! The view from the top was well worth it.

I felt proud of myself for making it to the top and as I started my downward journey I realized how important it is to make commitments in your life. To yourself, to your work, in your relationships and to your health.

When we commit, when we really commit to our lives, we are able to find our path without confusion or delays. Committing also brings about a certain element of trust, that no matter what, you will be able to handle whatever situation life throws at you.

Walking this mountain was a metaphor for me about committing to the highest peak of my life, the highest calling of my destiny and committing to what feels good, whether there is fear or confusion.

To change Coelho’s words- When you commit to something, all the Universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.

What can you commit to in your life today?
