December 2024 began with a New Moon in Sagittarius on the 1st and will close with a Capricorn New Moon on the 30th. Having two New Moons in the same month indicates a point of rest; a point of closure before the new can begin. The second New Moon in a calendar month is also referred to as a Black Moon.
If we think of the color black for a moment, it takes us to a space of emptiness and void, a place of nothingness. It is the color of potential before the creation takes place. A seed is planted in the dark soil, yet it is still unclear how that seed will grow and what will become of it.
Under the Black Moon of 2024, we are invited to enter our own space of potential. To remind ourselves that all things are possible. That we have the power to create. That we have the power to birth.
This last New Moon of 2024 reminds us that we have the power, but there is no need to rush in and use it. It may be tempting to use the last New Moon of 2024 to set some intentions for the year ahead, and while you can absolutely do this, there is a softer calling to this New Moon.
There is a slowness to this New Moon that encourages us to sit with stillness before we plant our seeds. To enjoy the unknown of the darkness just a little longer before we start to imprint our visions into the emptyness.
Under the Capricorn New Moon, see if you can just allow yourself to be. See if you can charge your spiritual batteries with the knowledge that you have the power to create, the potential to create, and that all possibilities exist.
See if you can sit with this information without pressuring yourself to take action or to charter course. Allow the power and truth of those words to take you where they need to take you. Try not to force, try not to project. Just allow yourself to be.
The Capricorn Sea Goat as our Spirit Guide
The last New Moon of 2024 falls in the earth sign of Capricorn, which is represented by the Sea Goat.
The Sea Goat is a mythical creature that can swim to the depths of the seas and climb to the tallest mountains, giving it a unique perspective and wisdom that no other animal can compete with. But, the Sea Goat is also at a disadvantage. While it has a tail, it doesn’t have fins. While it has two front legs, it is missing its hind legs. All of this can make it extra challenging for the Sea Goat, but through learning and some persistence, it can embrace all the gifts life has to offer.
Perhaps the symbolism behind the Sea Goat has sparked something in you. Do you resonate with the lessons of the Sea Goat? Is there something you can take away from this story?
The Sea Goat reminds us that we are each unique and special beings. We all have our talents; we all have our skills, and when we learn to harness them, we can experience the rewards that they have to offer.
The Sea Goat cannot climb like his mountain goat brothers and sisters, and it cannot swim alongside the school of fish, but it can own its own body, its own talents, and its own power.
How have you had to rise up and channel your inner Sea Goat in 2024? Take a moment to acknowledge how you have faced your challenges, even if they have seemed impossible or unfair.
Consider how you can rise up just like the Sea Goat and overcome whatever has come your way. Our cosmic skies don’t ask for us to make a plan, but to just know that we can.
Chiron, the Asteroid of the Wounded Healer Stations Direct
The asteroid of the wounded healer grabs our attention under the Capricorn New Moon as it has just stationed direct on December 29.
Chiron has been retrograde since July, but right before the New Moon, it has chosen to finally emerge from this cycle.
Chiron is known as the wounded healer for it, like the Sea Goat, has learned to take what it has been given and turn it into a strength and power.
Chiron was abandoned at birth, leading to suffering, trauma, and deep wounding. But over the years, Chiron has learned to use his wounds and traumas as powerful portals of healing.
It was Chiron’s wounds that paved the way for his role as a powerful healer, teacher, psychic, and philosopher.
Chiron knew his wounds would never leave him, but he allowed them to become portals of wisdom, compassion, and learning. This is why Chiron is referred to as the wounded healer.
We all possess the same powers as Chiron. Inside, each and every one of us has the ability to take our wounds and pain points and turn them into a source of power.
There seems to be a theme around this Capricorn New Moon of recognizing our potential, and knowing that no matter the wounds we face, we can still lead a beautiful and fulfilling life.
Capricorn New Moon Ritual Ideas
I normally create a ritual to work with the New Moon however, I am trying to allow myself to take a little break! So here are some small and simple ritual ideas you can try for the Capricorn New Moon:
1.) Meditate on the fact that all things are possible
2.) Feel into your potential to create; know that it is there
3.) Reflect on all the ways your “inner Sea Goat” has shown up in you through 2024
4.) Light a candle to honor the light within the darkness
You can also work with this ritual from the Gemini Full Moon earlier in the month. This ritual was designed to be done up until the end of 2024.
