Nikki’s Weekly Tarot Reading: March 13-19, 2023

Weekly Tarot

The cards pictured are from Uusi’s ‘Pagan Otherworlds’ deck.

The Fool and Seven of Cups

Our cards this week share some tough love and present an opportunity to make some positive shifts. These shifts will allow fresh energy to enter our world as we navigate the last week of the Pisces season, the start of the astrological new year, and the Equinox on the horizon.

Let’s start with the Seven of Cups. When this card shows up we know we are under her spell. We listen to the part of ourselves that just wants a quick fix. She softly whispers in our ear: just take the easy road. We feel drawn into a cycle of instant gratification and we lose our way.

We are faced with temptation in many areas of our life. We might feel cloudy and disconnected from our moral compass. We could not be thinking clearly due to a possible addiction or problematic pattern. And the Seven of Cups is pointing to some less-than-healthy behaviors that might be taking up space in our lives.

Whether it’s a relationship based purely on pleasure and not connected to our hearts, a job that pays the bills but does not fulfill us, or even the glasses of wine and endless scrolling that soothe our brain after a long day but don’t fuel our spirit.

These pleasures can easily deceive us into thinking that it’s something we need. We start to crave this way of operating instead of healthier more sustainable choices. The Seven of Cups shows up to make sure we see through the illusion of instant gratification.

It is hard to make healthy choices because they usually require more planning and effort. And if we have been dealing with emotional or physical pain, the effort is just that much harder. But we are called to remember that these things are not making us happy. It may be delaying unhappiness for the time being, but it is not making us more joyful in the long run.

When we take a step back and look at our patterns, which the end of Pisces Season might call us to do, we will be able to adjust and recalibrate, rather than just operating on autopilot. This recalibration will be so worth the effort.

There is nothing wrong with pleasure in it itself. The cards just want us to see if we are experiencing quick, short-term pleasure or deeper more restorative pleasure. It wants us to cultivate pleasures that enrich us and make us feel more alive and strong, to find things that truly fill our cups.

Our next card is the Fool, a card connected to the youthful energy in all of us. The Fool highlights a child’s fantastical imagination, the creative mind, and our adventurous spirit.

It is the first card in the Major Arcana and it brings the energy of a new soul that is not familiar with the trials and tribulations of life. It is all about taking risks and lightening our emotional baggage. If the Fool had a mantra it would be: Leap and the net will appear.

Each of us can tap into this place when we give it the room it needs to be explored. We can invite in the Fool when we listen to the wisdom of the Seven of Cups and make some necessary shifts.

The vibrations of this card push us to move through our fears in order to step into the present. The Fool calls us to focus on areas of our lives where we want to take chances.

Starting new relationships, business ventures, or projects are all connected to The Fool. This card is most activated when fresh paths are being taken. It is the perfect card to guide us as we close out Pisces and step into the firey and goal-driven season ahead.

So ask yourself: What adventure do you want to embark on? Is there a project you want to start? Do you want to open your heart to new people? Do you want to open your heart to yourself?

This Fool can bring up fear. Many of us have become too familiar with pain, heartbreak, and failure and these things make us afraid of leaping. But the Fool has faith in the goodness of our being and asks us to lovingly take down our walls.

Mantra for the week: I let go of patterns that hold me back. I open myself to the opportunities that propel me forward.
