Spiritual Significance and Ritual for the March Equinox 2020

equinox meaning ritual

As the Sun crosses the celestial equator on March 19-20th, we experience equal hours of night and day. 12 hours to align with the dark and 12 hours to align with the light, creating the perfect balance.

We can use this balance found on the Equinox to honor the dark and the light within.

At our core, we are light beings as radiant as the Sun, but we also live in a dense, physical world where shadows exist.

Just as Mother Earth experiences this balance on the Equinox, we too can find a way to acknowledge our eternal soul made of light and the physical, dense world that we live in that is here to teach us so much.

We are light beings on a physical journey. We are here to experience the physical, but we also cannot forget the light and love that we are.

When we allow ourselves to bathe in our light, we see that light is our true essence and our true path. We see that we all return to the light and we all come from the light. We see that there is no separation and that the opposite of light, is needed in order to guide us on the next stage of our journey.

When we allow ourselves to bathe in the dark, dense physical, we see the amazing abilities of our physical bodies, what we can build and create, and how we all bring unique gifts and talents to this world. We see that life is always going through cycles of growing and shedding. We are also able to taste delicious food, hear laughter, feel an amazing array of emotion, smell beautiful flowers, and hold the ones we love.

When we get too caught up in the light, we can lose touch with our reality and forget the purpose of our journey. When we get too caught up in the dark, we can forget who we truly are and become overpowered by materialism and our ego.

Under the energy of the March Equinox, we are being called to create balance within ourselves and around the world. We are each being called to find our center, and to restore equilibrium to our mind, body, and soul.

We are here for a physical, human journey. Let’s honor that and all the pain and joy it brings. But let us also honor the light that lives in each and every one of us and the optimism and hope it can bring.

At the time of the Equinox, the veil between dimensions is also believed to be thin, so we can more easily access spirit wisdom, our intuition, and psychic messages with ease.

We can also use this sacred time for ritual work. Here is a ritual you can use to guide you for the March Equinox –

March Equinox Ritual

You will need:

  • A fresh flower (for those in the Northern Hemisphere)
  • A dried leaf (for those in the Southern Hemisphere)
  • Bowl of Water
  • 2 candles
  • Pen and paper
  • March Cosmic Guided Meditation

Directions:

1.) Have all your ingredients ready to go and start with the Guided meditation for March. You can also meditate on your own if you prefer too.

2.) Light both your candles and place them side by side. Put your hand over your heart, and repeat the following affirmation aloud-

“I am balanced. I am whole. I am grounded. I am centered. I am earth, I am water. I am fire, I am air. I am the Sun, I am the Moon. I am light. I am dark. I am connected to all that is within and all that is around. I am rooted in myself. I am peace. I am love. I am balance. I am harmony.”

3.) Now, take your paper and pen. Place your hand on your heart and ask yourself- Dear body, dear mother earth, how can I better honor, appreciate, and acknowledge my physical journey? Write down whatever answers come to your mind.

4.) Take another piece of paper. Place your hand on your heart and ask yourself- Dear soul, dear spirit, how can I acknowledge the light that I am and my connection to source, the divine, and to my higher self? Again, write down whatever first comes to your mind.

4.) Fold both the papers. Hold your first piece of paper in your hand. Close your fist and state out loud your offering to yourself and to Mother Earth of what you are going to do to honor your physical journey and body. Place the paper into the fire of the candle. Once the paper begins burning, drop it in the bowl of water.

5.) Now, take your next piece of paper in your hand. Close your fist and state out loud your offering to Spirit and to your higher self about what you are going to do to honor your Spirit journey. Place the paper into the fire of the candle. Once burning, drop it into the bowl of water.

6.) Take your leaf/ flower and add it to the bowl of water. Clasp the bowl of water with your two hands and repeat “Thank You” four times.

7.) Leave the bowl out for 12 hours and then discard by returning to nature if you can.

Happy Equinox!
