As we move into the month of May, we may be feeling like we are ready for a vacation! The last few months we have been working with Eclipse Season, Mercury Retrograde, and the rare and special alignment of Jupiter and Uranus.
All of this energy would have brought transformation, upheaval, and change into our lives, but now, in the month of May, we can catch our breath and perhaps start to regain some clarity on where we stand.
May is a good month to slow down and focus on what we truly value. In the first part of the month, the Taurus Sun encourages us to nurture what is important and to ensure we are creating a solid and supportive foundation for all that we wish to be abundant.
As we move into Gemini Season, we are encouraged to use our voice and to focus on the way we have been communicating, not just with others but with ourselves. This will be a time to get to know ourselves better and to reflect on how we really think and feel about something.
All through the month of May we are greeted with portals that allow for deeper clarity and greater expansion of the mind.
As we journey through the cosmic energies of May, I imagine we will leave the month with greater awareness, expansion of some kind, and a deeper clarity on the journey of transformation we are moving through.
Here are the key astrological dates to pay attention to:
May Astrology 2024
May 2: Pluto Retrograde
Our first outer planet enters retrograde. Pluto will retrograde in the sign of Aquarius, making its way back into Capricorn by September. Pluto retrograde is a time of digging deep through the shadows. It is a very subtle energy, so we won’t quite understand the lessons or gifts of this transit straight away. It may take until Pluto goes direct again in October that we are really able to see how we have made the unconscious conscious. Pluto is considered the Lord of the Underworld and the planet of power, so while we are unearthing things from the underworld and helping to come face to face with all that is hidden, we are also finding new ways to step into our personal power. You can read more about Pluto in Aquarius here.
May 7: Taurus New Moon
A new lunar cycle begins, officially moving us out of Eclipse Season. Mercury is also expected to leave its shadow phase tomorrow, making this a highly clarifying New Moon. We may feel a powerful surge of fresh energy flowing our way and the clarity that is needed to put this fresh energy to use! This is a good time to reflect on what we truly wish to spend our time on and what we truly value. While this is a very stabilizing New Moon, there is some wildcard energy coming in from Uranus. Last month, we celebrated the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction – a once-in-14-year cycle, and perhaps something surprising or unexpected came our way. Maybe we felt the need to expand our horizons or leap from our comfort zones. This New Moon may amplify those decisions or the energy that was brewing in the last few weeks of April. You can read more on the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction here.
May 13: Mercury Leaves Shadow Phase
Mercury left retrograde on April 25, but now it is officially out of its post-retrograde shadow. With Mercury nice and strong in the cosmic skies, we can feel confident about signing contracts, making long-term plans, and creating commitments. If you would like to explore Mercury Retrograde on a deeper level, check out the journal prompts here.
May 15: Mercury in Taurus
The planet of communication moves into Earth sign Taurus. Here, Mercury will guide us to be intentional with how we communicate. We may feel the need to slow down and be more deliberate with our messaging. This would be a good time to start a journal or to even write your thoughts down on paper. Speaking nourishing words to yourself and others is always powerful, but with Mercury in Taurus we may feel extra rejuvenated by this practice.
May 16-18: Sun and Algol
Algol is one of the most notorious stars in astrology, however its reputation is largely misguided. Algol represents the power we obtain after moving through different states or chapters of our lives. Algol is closely linked with the myth of Medusa. Medusa started out as an Oracle Goddess but eventually was turned into a gorgon with a head of snakes. Through this transformation however, she only became stronger. This is the essence of Algol; it teaches us to find our strength and power, no matter the transformations that have found us. You can read more on Algol and how to work with this energy here.
May 20: Sun in Gemini
The Sun moves out of steady, grounded Taurus into the social and quick-witted sign of the Twins! Gemini is an air sign, which means energy will move from our lower chakras to our higher chakras, fueling our creativity and our desire to share. Gemini Season is a great time to focus on communication and working with our hands. It is also power time when it comes to recognizing both aspects of our being. We are a soul, but we are also a physical body. This is the nature of the Gemini Twins. One twin is mortal and the other is immortal, representing our temporary body and our forever soul.
May 23: Sagittarius Full Moon
The Sagittarius Full Moon brings expansion and illumination. We may feel like expanding our horizons, our way of being, or even our thoughts. There is a sense of adventure and playfulness that comes with the Sagittarius Full Moon. Neptune is also active at this time, adding some heightened intuitive and creative energy. Full Moons are always an extra sensitive time in the month. We may feel our sleep is disrupted and that our emotions feel heightened. Our intuition tends to speak louder under a Full Moon too. This is a good opportunity in the month to release and let go, and to bring more play and adventure into our lives. Overall, a peaceful Full Moon compared to the ones of recent months!
May 23: Venus in Gemini
Venus moves into Gemini right in time for Jupiter’s arrival which happens in the following days. Venus in Gemini is extra chatty, social, and wants to get out and meet people! Try expressing your more extroverted side these coming days, and push yourself to catch up with friends and be social. Venus in Gemini is also a highly creative energy that can inspire us to work with our hands.
May 25: Jupiter in Gemini
One of the year’s defining events is Jupiter’s move into Gemini. Jupiter spends about 12 months in each sign of the zodiac, so its move tends to color and shape the themes for the year ahead. Jupiter in Gemini is going to bring a strong focus to all areas of communication, travel, transport, and media. We may see an expansion or spotlight shone on these industries. On a personal level, Jupiter in Gemini will guide us to look at our own communication style and how we have been expressing ourselves to others. We may have to confront where we haven’t been truthful or where we have not been sharing from a truly authentic place. We may feel more drawn to writing, teaching, or sharing our story. We may feel compelled to start a journal or to even start writing that novel or producing that podcast! Jupiter in Gemini will help our voice to be heard and will inspire us to create platforms for our message to be broadcast to the world. On deeper levels, Jupiter in Gemini can also help us to create more of a bridge between our human selves and our being selves. We are a spiritual being having a human experience, and creating this balance is something we will feel supported in under a Gemini Jupiter. If you were born with Jupiter in Gemini, you will be having your Jupiter Return. You can learn more about this here.
May 28-30: Aldebaran Silver-Gate Portal
When the Sun aligns with the Royal Star, Aldebaran, it activates a portal of high-frequency energy. Some astrologers refer to this as the Silver Gate Portal. This portal beams down energy that can sharpen our minds, deepen our intuition, and increase our wisdom. Aldebaran is also said to be the resting place for souls right before they reincarnate back on Earth. In this resting place, the Soul has a chance to reflect on why it is coming to Earth and the lessons it will obtain. We can channel this space by connecting with our Higher Self and soul contract, and remembering that every experience is a lesson.
May blessings to you!
