Do you ever just feel lost? That your life is lacking direction and purpose?
I have definitely been feeling this way and the more I talk about it, the more I find that I am not alone.
On my journey I have run into people from all walks of life, from all around the world. Sometimes they are just content not “knowing” and are happy to follow the status quo and others who I meet are rooted in their life purpose and are happily manifesting abundance and conscious visions.
And then there are the people who are just kind of floating, waiting for the right type of inspiration to come their way. Who are not content with just finding an average job to get by but are unsure of with path to follow or which journey to take.
In fact, I think we all have periods in our life like this, where we feel lost and unmotivated to choose a path. It’s like we know we need to make a change, but the ideas and the inspiration just don’t come, or we become comfortable in the patterns that we have created and find it too hard to shift.
Sometimes, it can get so bad you find yourself in a funk, and the funk just seems to grow and grow and starts permeating in all parts of your life until you have no idea who you are anymore.
Anyone else feel this way?
I guess “this too shall pass” but in the mean time, the best thing we can do is ACCEPT…..
It almost feels weird writing this article because the above is a pretty accurate reflection of my personal state right now and I feel its hard for me to give advice however, this is what I know for sure:
If you don’t know your purpose its your job to find out and you find out by following your bliss and doing what makes you HAPPY in the present moment.
While this is all fine and dandy and very good advice, what happens when things have gotten so bad that you don’t even know what makes you happy??
Shifting can be difficult, and for all you feeling this way remain optimistic because this July new moon will help to cast some much needed baggage into the water.
While our purpose flows out of us and into the world, shifting requires us to sometimes just literally get off our butts.
In order to shift we need to stop complaining and start becoming proactive. Even if it just starts off as something simple to begin with, such as going to a different grocery store, taking up a new exercise class or browsing new job openings.
Sometimes our bodies can fight against shifting and this is ok, while no force is really needed, sometimes its ok to give a little nudge.
When we reach a “funk” point in our lives it is basically the Universes way of saying CHANGE NEEDS TO HAPPEN and that GROWTH is occurring. So essentially, it is a good sign.
Sometimes the funk has to stay around for us to really understand what is not working.
Is it your job? Your relationship? Your apartment? You know what, it doesn’t really matter because the first step you need to do is look within.
Changing the physical elements can be great, but if you haven’t dealt with the issues within, soon enough you are going to find yourself in the same place you started out in.
While getting out of a bad job or relationship can definitely help, if you don’t work on those issues that attracted it into your life in the first place, you will mysteriously find that the same lesson keeps popping up for you, just in a different way.
Start by identifying what is causing you to feel so unmotivated and if you cant come up with anything, start with the easy stuff:
- 1.) Get a good nights sleep: when you are fatigued its easy to feel cranky and unmotivated. Feeling rested can definitely help brighten your mood and give you more energy for the day ahead.
- 2.) Spend time with friends: there is nothing like having a good laugh and some good conversation with friends to get you feeling motivated.
- 3.) Food: what you eat is so important, make sure your diet is balanced and full of fresh organic fruits and vegetables
- 4.) Set goals: once you have all the lifestyle things down, set some goals. Start with something simple and then work your way up. As you complete goals tick or cross them off your list for instant satisfaction.
- 5.) Reward yourself: yes, it is kind of like puppy training, but definitely feel free to reward yourself as you tick off those goals.
Another great way to find motivation and strength is to meditate. Believe it or not, at a point in my life I felt like I had found my purpose- I guess I have just outgrown it now- and it happened through meditation.
I love guided meditation as it helps my mind to stay focussed and in the moment, however, you can experiment with whatever form of meditation works for you.
If sitting in stillness is not your cup of tea, the effects of meditation can also be experienced through painting, writing or taking a walk out in nature. Find what speaks to you and just go do it. (Sometimes, I also get my greatest inspiration in the shower.)
No one can tell you what to do with your life or what your purpose is, for that must come from within and when the time is right.
Stop focussing on the answers and just start living. Once you stop the repetitive self tape “I don’t know what to do with my life” and just start living, things will eventually fall into place.
“The problem, often not discovered until late in life, is that when you look for things in life like love, meaning, motivation, it implies they are sitting behind a tree or under a rock. The most successful people in life recognize, that in life they create their own love, they manufacture their own meaning, they generate their own motivation. For me, I am driven by two main philosophies, know more today about the world than I knew yesterday. And lessen the suffering of others. You’d be surprised how far that gets you.” – Neil deGrasse Tyson
