Saturn has been traveling through Capricorn since December 20, 2017, and now on March 21, 2020, it is moving into Aquarius, just for a few short months to give us all a taste of what’s to come.
You see, after Saturn enters Aquarius, it will retrograde and travel back into Capricorn on July 1. It will then officially enter Aquarius on December 17, 2020, where it will remain until March 7, 2023.
Saturn traveling through Capricorn has been huge for me as it signaled my Saturn Return. You can read more about what a Saturn Return is here, but basically, if you were aged 27-30, 57-60 or even 87-90 during 2017-2020 you would have been having your Saturn Return too.
Now, if you fall between those age brackets between 2020-2023 you will be having your Saturn Return too as Saturn moves into Aquarius.
Saturn is the Lord of Karma.
Saturn is one of the more challenging planets in astrology. It is a planet that brings great growth and lessons. It is considered the planet of karma and guides us to take responsibility for our lives in a new way.
Whenever Saturn moves into a new sign, it creates a monumental shift that we all feel to varying degrees.
Because Saturn spends around 2.5 years in each sign, it’s energy is slow to build and usually, we cannot see the effects that Saturn has created in our lives till we are almost through with it.
While Saturn has been touring Capricorn, we have all been working through the lessons of our own karmic cycle.
Think back to what significant events were happening around 2017, does anything stand out?
Usually, Saturn brings a string of events that are almost repetitive in nature, or events that build up off one another, as this is how we begin unpacking our karmic bonds and working through the lessons so we can receive the gifts!
For me, 2017 was the start of my Saturn Return and also the year I lost my little sister, we were extremely close. She died very suddenly after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
For the last few years, I have been on an incredibly intense journey of grief and also in many ways, my own death process. I don’t want to sugarcoat it, it’s been extremely challenging and I know that Saturn moving into Aquarius isn’t suddenly going to make it all better, but this shift has encouraged me to start looking at the lessons I have learned.
You see, that’s what I like about astrology. It guides you to look at things in a way that you probably wouldn’t have before. Knowing that Saturn is all about hard lessons, it really makes me look at the hard lessons I have faced and try to understand them rather than just feeling angry or upset that I had to go through them.
I am still piecing together my own lessons, and perhaps you are too. But maybe like me, you are starting to see just what themes Saturn has guided you on and how that has lead to new discoveries about yourself and your life.
Saturn puts obstacles and gifts on your path.
Saturn is a heavy energy and it can sometimes make us feel held back and restricted in a certain area of our lives. It is also the planet of boundaries and blocks, so if you are struggling to know what your Saturn journey has been, perhaps see what areas of your life you have felt blocked or held back in.
Saturn builds walls as it wants us to figure out what we are willing to fight for and what direction we really want to head in.
We think we may know what direction we wish to go, but it’s not until Saturn puts some blocks on our path that we can really discover the truth of what we once believed.
By forcing us to stay in one place, we can also dig a little deeper and uncover some new truths about ourselves. These new truths can then help us propel forward when the time is right.
This right timing is now on the horizon, for as Saturn enters Aquarius on March 21, we are going to feel those blocks come down and a new freedom emerge.
With the walls down we are going to be able to see better and clearer. We are going to be able to see why we were held back and what pathways are now waiting for us.
It is going to take some time for us to get our head around this newfound freedom, but Saturn will give us until December to figure all of this out.
From March to December, we may also start to feel into the gifts that are now waiting for us. The hard work is over and we can start benefiting from all we have been doing.
When Saturn leaves a sign, it always leaves a little treasure, and this is something we are all going to receive as the year moves on.
Saturn ventures into Aquarius for the first time since 1991-1994.
Capricorn is Saturn’s ruling sign, so it was really at home in this zodiac and was able to shine its energy pure and bright. This pure and bright energy is set to continue as Saturn loves being in Aquarius too.
The ruling planet of Aquarius is Uranus, but before Uranus was discovered, Saturn was its ruling planet. This means that Saturn is considered the old ruler of Aquarius.
Moving back to its old home in the zodiac is going to feel nostalgic for Saturn, but this is not the time to get sentimental about the past.
Saturn in this placement is all about the future, where we are heading, and what changes we have to make in order to navigate this new and emerging world.
Saturn will build its walls and move to work on a new karmic lesson in our lives, but this is all to fuel radical new changes that will help lead us into this new paradigm and way of living.
Saturn being in Aquarius is also going to bring our attention to community, humanitarianism, technology, artificial intelligence, mental health, gender identity, alternative relationships and living situations, and working together for the greater good.
As an air sign, Aquarius rules over our thought processes and Saturn, as an earth sign, rules over the physical, tangible reality. This combination makes it easier for us to turn our thoughts into reality and to create whatever our imagination can dream up.
This is definitely a progressive, forward-thinking time where we can leave the past behind and head into the future that is waiting.
Once Saturn is done in Aquarius come March 7, 2023, it is likely we will be able to look back on this chapter and see radical shifts that have changed the way we live, the communities we live in, and how we treat others.
