I Don’t Wanna

I don’t want to do it.

If I am being 100 percent honest, I did not want to write this blog right now. I have a pile of other chores to do and I have family coming into town tomorrow morning. I don’t want to do it.

But I have a deadline. So, I figured I may go out on a limb and try something.. I am going to write a blog about a blog that I don’t want to write about. Still following me?

I don’t want to do it but I Am doing it.

Don’t get me wrong, I love this blog. But for some reason, I couldn’t bring myself to write. I skimmed multiple articles and researched the goings on of the world and I still wasn’t motivated to do anything with them.

At first I thought- Maybe it’s me? Studies show that when your creative flow gets stagnant it’s because of anxiety, depression, or fear. Well lately I haven’t really felt any of those (maybe anxiety) and I have been feeling pretty great in my life so why am I putting off this blog? Hell, I am almost halfway through and I haven’t even gotten to the point.

The point is (here it comes) you have to do the shit you don’t want to do. Sorry to be so forward but that’s life. Deal with it. The good news is that 90 percent of the time, you’ll be glad you did it.

I am doing it.

This goes back to when I was kid and I was told to clean my room. I never wanted to do it, but I was always so excited to play with my GI Joes on a nice clean floor instead of directing scenes around dirty socks and underwear. I will never admit this to my Mom (unless she reads this blog) but I am glad that she made do things I didn’t want to do.

Even to this day I am glad that I do things I don’t want to do. My car’s tires were basically running bald and I desperately needed to replace them. Every time I drove, I prayed that I didn’t get flat or slide across the road. I put this off for far too long and finally, last week, I got them replaced. Now when I drive I feel much safer and the ride is smoother. Thanks motivation!

If you never go out of your comfort zone and avoid activities and tasks because you don’t want to, you’ll never learn anything. Not a thing. Right now I have learned that writing a blog is much easier when you are honest with your reader. By the way, thanks for reading this far.

You’re doing it.

I need to put this “Just Do It” attitude into action more (btw thanks Nike for letting me use your slogan). This week I plan on meditating on the things that I have been putting off. I bet I will be elated when I finish everything on my “I don’t want to do it” list.

The first thing on that list is to clean my room so I can play with my GI Joes…

What something that you didn’t want to do this week? Why not try giving it a go and see if you learn something too.
