The Spiritual Power of Cats

Isn’t it interesting that there is almost a clear-cut division among people: the cat lovers and the dog lovers?

It’s as if there is something so utterly different and incompatible between the two groups of pet lovers. It’s as if in the view of humans, cats and dogs are from two different planets.

Throughout my childhood and adolescence, I used to consider myself a true dog lover with no room whatsoever in my heart left for cats. And yet, now, a dozen years later, I am completely and utterly in love with cats.

About five years ago, the Universe gently pushed me onto a spiritual path, by throwing a string of hardships and challenges my way, so that I would work with my shadow side and reconnect with my higher self.  Since then, two gorgeous black-and-white cats have chosen to make my house their home.

I now know that these cats came into my life when I had become more in touch with my intuition and psychic powers. Until then, I had subconsciously ignored or repressed these qualities in me.

Since ancient times, cats have been worshipped as gods and despised as demons. It seems that throughout history, humans have had a love-or-hate relationship with them.

Many powerful ancient civilizations held cats in high esteem. The Egyptians even had their own Goddess of Cats, named Bast, who was believed to protect households from harm. Bast was worshipped as the Goddess of abundance, fertility, magic, and the moon.

The ancient Greeks and Romans also associated cats with fertility and the moon, and in India, cats symbolized childbirth. It was not until the spread of Christianity during medieval times that cats were demonized and became a symbol of darkness and black magic.

Why did such a drastic shift in human attitude towards cats occur? I believe this has to do with the typical characteristics of cats as well as the qualities that humans have attributed to them.

Cats are by nature very independent and tenacious. Even if they are abandoned by humans, they have the innate ability to survive in the wild. Furthermore, they never go out of their way to please humans.

Cats are naturally graceful and elegant, and there is a certain mysterious quality about them. They can see well in the dark and they love to move around at night.

That might be one of the main reasons humans started to associate cats with witches and black magic. After all, darkness is where our fears lie. Darkness signifies the unknown and the supernatural, which can be seen as dangerous to humans.

Cats also represent the feminine qualities that have been repressed and ridiculed by the patriarchy for centuries.

Cats are the symbol of the mysterious and empowered feminine, and they have always been believed to symbolize intuition, psychic powers, sensuality, healing, magic, and mystery.

It is also believed that cats have the power to protect humans thanks to their ability to communicate with the spirit world.

Cats protect the home from intruders and evil forces with their extremely powerful aura. They can swiftly chase away evil spirits and clear negative energies from the household.

Having a cat as a pet can also protect you from black magic and psychic attacks. Cats have such high-vibrational energy that just being around them can keep you safe from someone’s evil intentions.

Cats can also act as guardians or spirit guides, bringing important messages from higher realms. In case you had an extremely strong bond with your pet cat who has passed away, it is entirely possible that they have become your guardian in the spirit realm. Even though there is no proof to that, it is still an immensely comforting thought for any cat lover.

However, you do not really need to have a cat as your spirit guide to learn things from them. Observing your pet cat or any other cat can also help you gain some valuable insights.

Cats are unapologetically themselves, so first and foremost, they teach us to own our power and not to let anyone crush our spirit or make us feel small. They remind us to put our own needs first and to always have our own back.

Throughout the ages, cats have symbolized darkness, psychic powers, as well as physical strength, and survival instincts. Perhaps, we should learn from them how to bridge the gap between the physical and spiritual worlds.

Maybe it is time we start embracing our own darkness and shadow side. Maybe it is time for all of us to reconnect with our inner goddess and discover the flame of magic and mystery within us, which has been nearly extinguished by the power of the patriarchy over centuries.

Cats also teach us to relax and not to take life so seriously. Their chilled-out way of being reminds us not to exhaust our precious energy reserves by worrying over trifles.

The message they bring us is that everything truly is ok, and that even though we may not see it, there is a divine plan and a higher purpose to the way things are.

For me, personally, the most important lesson I have learnt from my two black cats is to be in the moment and enjoy the simple pleasures of life. Activities, such as walking, eating or sleeping can bring us immense joy, as long as we are not distracting ourselves with negative thoughts and emotions.

No matter whether you believe in the psychic power of cats or not, there is no doubt that they have an incredibly calming and balancing effect on anyone who is near them. Stroking a cat can truly feel like a therapeutic healing session.

So, the next time you are petting a cat, feel all your stress just melting away and all the negative energy leaving your body. Relax to the sound of their purring and immerse yourself in the sense of pure bliss taking you over. You will feel harmonious and your mind will be at ease.
