Six of Disks and Ten of Swords
Our cards this week seem to be on opposite ends of the spectrum. One speaks to our success and natural flow, while the other speaks to being stuck in our thoughts. They show us that when we are in our bodies and grounded in community, positivity is abundant, but when we isolate and get stuck in our heads, we begin to suffer.
The Six of Disks is about success, wealth, and generosity. It’s about experiencing the fruits of your labor and giving back to those in need. It balances new, fresh energy with remembering the past that brought you to this moment.
Things seem to work out easily under the influence of the Six of Disks. This productive harmony comes from deep-rooted self-trust. When we step into our power, we find ourselves capable of great success and fulfillment. These things flow naturally as a reward for the effort and investments we have made.
During a period like this, sometimes we end up with more than we actually need. If this happens, look for opportunities to support your community. Share the abundance that comes and be generous with your bounty. That’s the best way to thank the Universe for your gifts and keep them flowing.
Whenever we receive a Ten card, it means we are at the end of our path, something has reached its limit, and we cannot go any further. When it comes to the Ten of Swords, this is a good thing, as we need to release and evolve.
With this card, we often find ourselves saying everything is okay when it’s not. We are in pain, and the world is in pain. We oscillate between feeling it deeply and not feeling it at all. We cannot take it all in at once, or it will be too much.
We distract ourselves with whatever we need in the moment. The Ten of Swords tells us that it is perfectly reasonable and normal to use distraction to get through intensity.
Many interpretations of the Ten of Swords suggest that our positive or negative thinking creates the circumstances in our lives. They will say that if you pull a card like the Ten of Swords, you need to examine your thoughts and actions and see how your thinking led to a negative event.
This misguided idea suggests that our ability to project the right energy influences everything we do. I do not believe this is true. Our thoughts do not cause bad things to happen; they may influence our emotions, but they do not generate negative or positive events.
This idea leads people to think their lack of commitment to positivity causes bad things to happen. It also suggests that negative events happen only to those who don’t keep a hopeful mind. Negative things happen to everyone, regardless of their thinking patterns.
Swords rule the mind, and thoughts are hard to control, especially after something challenging has happened. But we can let both negative and positive thinking exist at the same time and allow them both to move through us.
We can acknowledge how unfair life is and let time with close friends help us feel better. We can recognize that things are wretched while also pursuing our dreams and desires.
Another way of working with the energy of the Ten of Swords is to let go of guilt for the things we have used to get through. Whatever distraction or creature comforts we have needed is okay. To move to the next phase, we will need to find peace with our coping mechanisms.
Work on your compassion and self-acceptance this week. Don’t force yourself to think too positively if that doesn’t feel right. Know that your thoughts do not create your circumstances. Through self-compassion, you will find your way.
Mantra for the week: Joy and pain often coexist, and sharing them helps grow one and ease the other.
