The last Mercury Retrograde of 2021 begins on September 26 and lasts up until October 18 in the air sign of Libra.
All through 2021, Mercury has retrograded through air signs, creating a bit of a theme. Mercury is quite comfortable in air signs, which can intensify the strength of the retrograde energy that we have been feeling.
Perhaps you have felt the Mercury Retrogrades of 2021 stronger than most?
Mercury Retrograde definitely gets a bad reputation, but it is just part of its natural and normal cycle. The more we can embrace it, the more we can begin to connect with the gifts and lessons it can bring.
Mercury Retrograde occurs when the planet appears to be moving backward from our vantage point here on earth. During this time, Mercury’s energy is directed internally rather than externally.
As the planet of messages, communication, and our thought processes, Mercury Retrograde is essentially a time where we are guided to go within and connect with our subconscious mind.
When Mercury travels direct it helps us to think clearly, communicate, and source messages from the world around us. But in retrograde, its focus shifts to help us to source messages from the unseen realms and our inner world.
Mercury traveling retrograde through air signs has created a theme around how we choose to communicate, express ourselves, and receive information.
We have definitely seen this manifesting on a global scale, but perhaps also on a personal level too.
Take a moment to think about how your communication style may have changed this year. Does anything come to mind?
It may help to think of this from the lens of our throat chakra. Located in our throat is a powerful energy center that helps us to express, share our truth, and speak our story.
How have you felt called to do these things this year? And have you noticed a change in your approach?
The throat chakra is a fantastic energy center to focus on during a Mercury Retrograde period, especially when its retrograde in an air sign.
As this Mercury Retrograde takes place in the air sign of Libra, we may also notice a focus on our relationships or how we choose to communicate with others.
Libra is the sign of partnership and how we relate and interact with the people around us. Under this Mercury Retrograde, we may find issues highlighted in this area.
How can we become better communicators in our relationships? Do we need to set boundaries or do we need to pull down walls?
You can use this September-October Mercury Retrograde energy to reflect on these questions and to think about better ways to communicate and share what you are thinking and feeling in your relationships.
Mercury Retrograde is also a wonderful time to connect with your dreams. Our dreams can be a portal to our subconscious mind, and Mercury can often leave messages for us in our dreams.
If you want to dive deeper into this dreaming work during Mercury Retrograde, I have teamed up with Dream Oracle, Holly Emmerson to create a self-paced workshop that you can try during Mercury Retrograde.
The workshop guides you to work with your dreams during a full Mercury Retrograde cycle, allowing you to gain deeper insights into your subconscious, the meaning of your dreams, and your intuition.
You can find out more about the workshop here.
This last Mercury Retrograde of the year will feel like a strong one to start with. This is partly because once Mercury enters retrograde, we will have a total of six planets in retrograde.
That is some strong retrograde energy! We may feel things slow down, or we may find ourselves needing to take a few steps back in order to move forward.
Mercury Retrograde is always a time to take it slow, but with other planets in retrograde too, this becomes more important.
Rather than bounding ahead, how can we learn from the past? How can we learn to be patient and wait for the right inspiration to find us?
Our intuition is supercharged during a Mercury Retrograde however, so if you are feeling driven and led by the heart, then follow that call!
The September-October Mercury Retrograde may also see us revisiting themes that were prevalent back in June of this year.
June was the last time Mercury was in retrograde, and that was a particularly strong cycle. We may find ourselves revisiting themes from this time, or we may find that any mishaps we experienced are finally ironed out and sorted through.
Mercury won’t enter retrograde again until January 2022. To keep up with the cycles of Mercury, check out my Moon Calendar for 2022 which shares all the retrograde dates plus more!
