A new year is upon us and it’s filled with fresh energies and opportunity. While 2021 does carry some similar themes to 2020, especially in the first half, its energy is also highly creative and offers us the inspiration to make the best of wherever we have landed.
While 2020 brought so much change, 2021 brings innovation and the ability to expand our minds and the ways we choose to live our lives. 2021 calls for us to be thrifty, extra creative, and to think outside the box.
Let’s take a look at the major cosmic energies and alignments happening in 2021 and what you can expect:
Numerology
2021 is a number 5 year in numerology. A number 5 year brings creativity, adventure, and freedom. 5 represents all the elements – earth, air, wind, fire, water, and spirit, allowing us to work in harmony and in unity with them.
5 is also associated with the womb or feminine power. It is a fertile year that allows us to plant seeds and watch them grow. Whatever space has been cleared for you will sprout new life.
The Age of Aquarius
There’s no doubt we are seeing some strong Age of Aquarius themes all throughout 2021. This is especially due to the Jupiter Saturn conjunction that occurred on December 21, 2020, in the sign of Aquarius. This conjunction will shape a lot of the themes we will see unfolding in 2021.
In February, we also have a line up of four planets in Aquarius, forming what is known as a stellium.
Aquarius energy is all about technology, innovation, and community. On deeper levels, it is also about connecting with the inner healer that is present within us all.
On a global level, this strong Aquarian energy can create this idea of working together and coming together for the common good. While there is this sense of unity and Oneness, we also have to be mindful that we don’t lose our individual spark or fall into a “group-think” mentality. We have to balance this idea of focusing on the needs of the whole and the group, without overly sacrificing the needs of the individual.
Mars Square Saturn
If you remember back in 2020, we had two Mars Square Saturn alignments that occurred from August-September. These alignments were volatile and contributed to some of the unrest we witnessed at that time around the world. This alignment on January 13th, 2021, is not as powerful as what we experienced last year, but it may indicate some similar themes unfolding. There is also the potential to receive some closure to any volatile energies that were stirring on a personal level for you from August-September of 2020.
Mercury Retrograde in Air Signs
Over the last few years, most of the Mercury Retrogrades have taken place in water signs. In 2021, however, things shift and majority of Mercury Retrogrades will take place in air signs.
Air signs include Aquarius, Gemini, and Libra and rule over our mind, thought processes, and the way we choose to think about things.
With Mercury Retrograde in air signs, we are being encouraged to stretch the dimensions of our mind, and to find new ways to think about things. Our mind needs to expand, our habitual, repetitive thought patterns need to be broken, and Mercury Retrograde 2021 will be guiding us with that.

- January 30 – February 20
- May 29 – June 22
- September 26 – October 18

Saturn Square Uranus
This is the major feature of 2021! Whenever Uranus is involved, its energy always adds a layer of unpredictability. It can bring shocks and surprises, but also the power to awaken.
As Uranus makes these tense square alignments with Saturn we could see innovation, restlessness, rebellion, and a complete overhaul of society and its systems. Uranus is all about freedom, change, and revolution, whereas Saturn is all about time-honored traditions, responsibility, and boundaries. As these two battle it out, we may see a push-pull between these dynamics.
This alignment can also shine a spotlight on the state of the environment, and can potentially trigger natural disasters. We definitely need to be extra mindful about how we are treating the planet in 2021.
Uranus and Saturn form this alignment three times:
- February 17
- June 14
- December 24
Neptune Square the Lunar Nodes
Neptune square the lunar nodes is something we were feeling towards the end of 2020, but it kicks into gear through January and February of 2021 too.
Neptune aligning with the lunar nodes or nodal axis, indicates deception and illusion, that all is not as it seems. It guides us to look away from the smoke and mirrors and to instead, go within. We may find it hard to trust the resources we once believed in, so we have to turn to our own intuition and inner knowing.
Whenever a planet touches the nodal axis, it also indicates a certain level of fate or destiny unfolding. It seems whatever illusions are breaking away are ones that were destined to. When the veil is lifted, we are able to see in to a deeper truth.
Pay attention to any deeper truths that are revealed at this time, and don’t be afraid to lift up the veil to see what’s behind.
The Astrological New Year
March 20-21 (depending on your timezone), brings the Equinox and the start of the astrological new year, which is when the Sun moves into the first zodiac sign of Aries. It’s at this point that we start to see what 2021 is really all about.
Eclipses
2020 gave us a total of six eclipses! This year we have four, which is much more typical, however we also have Blood Moon Eclipse. We haven’t had a Blood Moon Eclipse since January 2019. They are extra powerful and indicate a major purge and cleansing. They can also bring volatility. Here is the full list of Eclipses for 2021:
- May 26- Blood Moon Eclipse in Sagittarius- this is linked to the Sagittarius Solar Eclipse on December 14, 2020
- June 10- Annular Solar Eclipse in Gemini- this is linked to the Gemini Lunar Eclipse on November 30, 2020
- November 19- Lunar Eclipse in Taurus – this is the first Eclipse in Taurus since 2014, and brings with it the start of a new cycle unfolding
- December 4- Total Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius- this Eclipse closes the Gemini/Sagittarius Eclipse cycle we have been working with since May 2020 and represents a point of closure.

Jupiter in Pisces
Jupiter races through Aquarius, dipping its toes into Pisces on May 13, 2021. Its stay in Pisces doesn’t last for long however, as Jupiter will retrograde and make its way back into Aquarius on July 28-29, where it will stay until December 31.
While December 31, 2021, is the official date for these Jupiter in Pisces energies, we can get a little taste of what’s to come during this three month period in mid-2021.
Jupiter in Pisces is magical and mystical, it is highly creative and spiritual. Under this energy our imaginations can soar and reach new heights, it is also easier to unlock our psychic abilities under this energy too.
Venus and Mars Conjunction
Venus and Mars align every 2 years or so, and bring some magical energy when they do! Their alignment on July 13, 2021, indicates harmony between the masculine and the feminine or yin and yang energies. This alignment can also be favorable for love and romance.
Lionsgate 88 New Moon
Lionsgate is always a special time of year as we witness the rising of Sirius, our Spiritual Sun. While Sirius begins rising at the end of July, August 8 gets extra attention due to the numerology code 88, which has the power to activate light codes and our DNA. In 2021, August 8 also brings the Leo New Moon, which will be spectacular energy for manifestation and light work. This is a time to set intentions of love and healing for the entire planet.
Venus Retrograde
Venus enters retrograde on December 19, 2021, in the sign of Capricorn. Think back to what unfolded around the Venus Retrograde of May 2020, you may find that you are leveling up and advancing on whatever themes were stirred for you at that time. Venus Retrograde is always a time of heart healing and awakening. It is also a good time to practice forgiveness and to clear old heart-wounds.
2021 brings a few bumps and shake-ups, but it also offers us the gift of creativity and innovation. This is a year to really expand your mind, take flight from your comfort zone, and to try new things.
